According to the Health Minister in a COVID-19 update this evening, April 5, 2021, 70 percent to 80 percent of the VI being vaccinated and attaining herd immunity will make the difference.
He said as of today, 8246 first doses have been administered, with 6971 on Tortola, 1118 on Virgin Gorda, 68 on Jost van Dyke and 89 on Anegada.
4068 units administered
Monthly statistics he said reveal that 4068 units were administered during the month of February, 3790 in March and 388 units so far in April.
The plan now is to get into the community to inform and educate persons on the benefits of taking the shots as further delays can also mean the vaccines would expire.
Noting that the VI is fortunate to receive 32, 000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine, Hon Malone said the first shipment of vaccine will expire in early May, the second shipment in early June and third in early July.
‘We are almost there’
Hon Malone said Government has reallocated millions of dollars to build the infrastructure and increase the human resource capacity required to get everyone to “this pivotal moment.”
“We have followed the science to get us here, we must follow the science to reopen our borders, reopen our schools, return to quarantine free travel, fill our hotel rooms, sail our yachts and end all curfews.
“We are almost there.”

As reported in The Brussels Times, the name change was approved on March 25 following a request from the company and was announced on the website of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and that of the Swedish National Medicines Agency (Läkemedelsverket).
The new name does not imply a change in the formula of the vaccine, according to the Läkemedelsverket, but there will be a new labeling and packaging of the drug.
Vaxzevria is made up of another virus (of the adenovirus family) that has been modified to contain the gene for making a protein from SARS-CoV-2.
The adenovirus, called C68, was originally isolated from a mesenteric lymph node of a chimpanzee and shown to replicate in a number of primate-derived cell lines.
Adenoviruses are common viruses that cause a range of illness. They can cause cold-like symptoms, fever, sore throat, bronchitis, pneumonia, diarrhea, and pink eye (conjunctivitis).
The European Medicines Agency did not rule out an association with rare cases of blood clots in vessels draining the blood from the brain known as cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST).
CVST, though rare, has been associated with pregnancy and the use of oral contraceptives. "That's one of the things that we will be further investigating in the near future," said Sabine Straus, chair of EMA's safety committee.
Investigations are still underway on the blood clot related issues and deaths following vaccination and should be updated this week.
These people who are bragging about nothing happening in a day, week, month after taking it, blindly not thinking of the negative effects that could occur long term quick to speak about the risk of not taking it.
Do you not understand that it is not permanent immunity and may have to be taken yearly? It is not even a surety you won’t become infected and spread it.
If people wondering whether so many people especially children diagnosed with the dreadful disease of cancer is linked to foods, why shouldn’t those who are cautious of getting this vaccine that was developed a few months ago be allowed to decide for their own bodies.
There are books that speak about certain foods affecting certain blood types, allergic reactions to certain medicine, etc., celebrities and people in general have spoken out about vaccines possibly linked to other conditions and developmental issues and this has been spoken about for years.
Would you say to those who died after this vaccine...thanks for taking that bullet and being a tester at least it wasn’t you and you good...in all these years when have you heard news of someone dying from a routine vaccine shot.
Focus on protecting your bodies; let others protect theirs otherwise.
