GREENLAND, Tortola, VI- The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) is alerting the public about a recent increase in commercial and residential burglaries across the communities in East End, Tortola, particularly within the Greenland and Long Look areas.

In the past week alone, more than seven burglaries were reported, prompting heightened concerns and additional measures by the RVIPF to safeguard affected communities.

According to the RVIPF in a press release today, November 5, 2024, the recent spate of break-ins, impacting both homes and businesses, underscores the need for residents and business owners to proactively secure their properties.

Functional security systems

The RVIPF also emphasised the importance of functional security systems, including working CCTV cameras, which can serve as both a deterrent and a valuable investigative tool. Security footage often provides crucial evidence that aids in identifying and apprehending suspects.

“The safety and security of our communities is a priority for the RVIPF, but community partnership is vital to addressing this issue,” stated Jacqueline E. Vanterpool, Acting Commissioner of Police.

“We urge everyone to adopt extra security measures, particularly with functional CCTV systems, and to report any suspicious activities.”, she concluded.

The RVIPF said additional patrols have been deployed throughout the Eastern districts, and detectives are actively investigating recent cases. Residents and business owners are encouraged to assist the Police by securing their premises and providing any relevant information.

Anyone with information about recent burglaries in East End is urged to contact the RVIPF’s Intelligence Unit at 368-9339 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 800- 8477 (TIPS) or overseas call 1-284-800-8477.

And even when your turnover footage to the police they are still useless. They just need to do their damn job. several years a friend turned over some time items and they went missing in the police station. From the Commissioner come down needs to go, they just here taking up space and wasting tax payers money.

@ Citizen. Make sure before handing over your evidence, you make copies, just in case it gets "lost".

Best you lock up your place for true because even if they catch them the way things go here is the thieves might just beat the case and get away.

The road condition in EE\LL is driving people nuts. With all the hardship and stress people are facing to now look at and experience the utter folly that is taking place on the road people are losing hope that any progress will come to this country. I refuse to believe that the premier drives on this road and cannot demand that action be taken immediately to at least spread some of the dirt that is piled up on the side to fill the wells that have been caused by the rain. This is so reminiscent of hurricane Irma that it is causing the same emotions of looting. The people are loosing their sense of security as they watch this utter foolishness that could have been avoided if those in authority had any common sense. This is beyond ridiculous.

I get this. What you are saying is that it is the state of the country, just one example being the roads, could be a driving force to this behavior. Government of the VI, please wake up. Your country is slowly dying. The answer is not an expanded airport. You must look within to repair and nurture the broken sole that is the VI's very being.

I think you're right, worth looking into broken window theory. The theory is that the urban environment can drive crime.

@ We Are Drifting. You said it! From in front of the police station, where they filled in a humongous hole, on Little Dix Road, all the way up and then down to Josiah's Bay Beach is Hell on Wheels. The holes are so big that you have to go super slow and zig-zag your way to the top. You can't even avoid these holes because some you cannot straddle because they are on both sides of the road. Our vehicles need a doctor. Talking to our Representative about this is useless. We feel hopeless, hurt, and sore from all of the bam bam bam bam in our vehicles. A downright disgrace!

East End need politicians who are not afraid to make decisions in their best interest. The place is a garbage dump and should be bridged off from the rest of Tortola.

Always reactionary. Kudos to you but to wait until you get burglarized to get big dogs.... you need a bond with them but I dont blame you many are raised to prefer comfort over preparation. At-least now you know better. You may never get burglarized again but pass on the lesson to those who you care for.
