5th District Political Internship births first Shadow Minister

HUNTUMS GHUT, Tortola, VI - A political internship programme launched by Minister for Transportation, Works and Utilities, Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5) for the 5th Electoral District, has birthed its first youth politician in student, Ms Rhianna Hodge.

Called the '5th District Political Internship,' Hon Rymer said the mentorship programming is one that is providing a platform for young, eager minds to be enlightened with a hands-on approach to the demanding but fulfilling job of a politician and their role in government.

"Today, I acknowledge to my 1st Honourable Shadow Minister, Ms Rhianna Hodge, job well done! You worked alongside my team and I for a few weeks and you were able to interact, question and be a part of many Ministerial affairs," the Minister said in a social media statement. 

Be a positive force for the future - Hon Rymer 

He said the hope is that the experience gained is one that will give the student great insight, interest and understanding of the important role that political leaders play in the Virgin Islands.

"We must never be too busy to guide and mentor the next generation of great minds and leaders. Let’s all be a positive force for the future. So, bringing District 5 Alive is more than just a campaign slogan, it is a call to action," he said. 

Ms Hodge commenting on the programme said it was an amazing experience with lots of learning, "I could honestly say that this is a field I would like to work in, later on in life," she said. 

Hon Rymer encouraged other youths in the 5th Electoral District to take up the mantle and join the programme if they are interested in learning what it takes to become a VI politician.

    Great potential to be unleashed. The truth of the matter is train now succession planning is a must. We will not be in that same position for life but if we have a plan and execute it well we can have great candidates for any political post.
