VALLEY, Virgin Gorda, VI - The Voyager, captained by Kirby Hodge with angler Giles Cadman, secured the $5,000 grand prize for the lucky catch of a Wahoo weighing approximately 52 pounds as the Virgin Gorda (VG) Fishing Tournament concluded on Sunday afternoon, April 8, 2012.

The tournament had begun on April 7, 2012.

Fourteen vessels registered for this year’s event, with entries coming from Virgin Gorda, Tortola, St. Maarten, and a record number of five entries from St. Thomas.

The event, which has been coordinated by the Flax family for the past 15 years, was deemed a success by one of its coordinators Sharon Flax.

Ms. Flax noted that there were no injuries at this year’s event and in response to the record number of entries hailing from St. Thomas, indicated that she was happy that “sport fishing is getting the attention it deserves.”

Second and third prizes were captured by Big Ting of Virgin Gorda and the Voyager of Tortola respectively.
