ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI– Fifty-two (52) persons recently took the Oath of Allegiance and Pledge of Loyalty in the Virgin Islands (VI) to become British Citizens.

The new citizens were processed during a ceremony held at Government House on June 20, 2024 and heard congratulatory remarks from His Excellency the Governor, Daniel Pruce, and Registrar General, Mrs. Tashi O’Flaherty-Maduro.

“Today you have taken a significant step. Along with receiving your certificates of citizenship you have just taken the Oath of Allegiance to His Majesty the King and the Pledge of Loyalty to the United Kingdom. The oath and the pledge are not just words. They are a formal promise, a commitment that you have made as you embrace your new nationality,” Governor Purce said.

He said as an overseas Territory and part of the realm of His Majesty, the Virgin Islands has a precious link with the United Kingdom.

“The success that both the Virgin Islands and United Kingdom enjoy in the global economy is founded upon many shared factors, including our common law legal systems and our respect for the rule of law. But our connections go much further than that through out history, through our people and through our culture.”

Registrar General Mrs Tashi O’Flaherty-Maduro congratulated the new citizens on their accomplishment and reminded them of the value of unity that their new citizenship brings.

“To our new citizens, I extend my heartfelt congratulations. Your dedication, hard-work and commitment have brought you to this moment. We recognize the challenges you may have faced and the contributions you have made along the way. Today you join a nation that cherishes its history and looks forward to its future with hope and confidence,” she said.

Why do you need to recognise anybody there. Is it your business? You either know them or you dont. Keep it moving.

Who turns their back on their country? Ask every migrant in the USA, UK,
Europe and your ancestors. Then think again before you manifest your ignorance on the world stage.

What makes it sad for the BVI if I.may ask? They are now UK citizens and I don't here them bickering against it. That is where they can now go and live, work, or set up business if they wish and run from wixled BVI. You're probably sadder than everyone because of your hate.

The ignorance of some people is appalling. ALL BV Islanders are British citizens. Any naturalized BVI resident can apply to the UK for British citizenship. This has NOTHING to do with BVI. All applications are sent to the u.k and approved or not approved by the u.k. Those who are issued British citizenship can apply for a u.k. passport and choose to live and work (like any BV Islander ) in the u.k They can then travel visa free to the u.s and any Euro country. It does not mean you are giving up your country of birth it's just the opportunities that are now available to you as a British citizen just like ALL BV Islanders.

Why explain yourself to stupid people that aren’t keen to learn before running their mouth? They are so sickening

This isn’t a free pass to behave any old way. Remember, it can be revoked so live as respectful citizens.
