4 arrested & charged following firearms, ammo & drugs seizure

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI– Officers of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) executed early morning operations on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, leading to the arrest of four individuals and the recovery of illegal firearms, ammunition, and drugs.

Following targeted searches at two residences, officers recovered an AR-15 rifle, a 9mm Glock pistol, 52 rounds of ammunition, and 260 grams of cannabis: bringing the firearm recoveries for 2025 to eight.

All four individuals, according to police in a press release today, March 12, 2025, were taken into custody for questioning, and subsequent investigations led to formal charges.

Raheem Blyden, 32 of Crabbe Lot has been charged with:

* Possession of a Prohibited Weapon

* Keeping an Unlicensed Firearm

* Three Counts of Possession of Explosives

* Possession of a Controlled Drug with Intent to Supply to Another.

Shaika Jeffers, 31 Ayana Lennard, 29, and Chad George, 21, all of Sophie Bay, have been charged with:

* Possession of a Prohibited Weapon.

* Possession of Explosives

Ammo recovered already more than days in the year- CoP

Acting Commissioner of Police, Jacqueline E. Vanterpool underscored the urgency of tackling illegal firearms in the Territory, stating: "Although we are just ten weeks into the year, we have recovered more ammunition than there are days in the year. While this reflects the dedication and commitment of the RVIPF officers, it also highlights the alarming presence of illegal firearms and ammunition in our Territory.

"This reality should serve as a wake-up call to all law-abiding citizens. It is imperative that we unite in support of the RVIPF and other law enforcement agencies in their relentless efforts to combat gun violence and criminal activity. Only through collective action can we ensure that the BVI remains one of the safest places to live, work, and vacation."

The RVIPF has said it remains steadfast in its mission to rid communities of illegal weapons and uphold public safety.

The RVIPF urges the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or criminal behaviour. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 368-9339 or report anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 800-8477 or overseas to (284) 800-8477.

    I tell ayou already, go look honest work. Put down the drugs and weapons. Most times, those who gravitate to this gundilero lifestyle started off dabbling with drugs. I am sure some of ayou family been drilling home the message to stay away from drugs from young, and if you never heard it at home, I know you heard it at school, so no excuse, whether old or young.     Let's see how long it takes to bring the cases to trial, and even if convictions are obtained the supposedly "mandatory 10 year sentence" is imposed. Color me skeptical on both counts.
