The three selected for the competition are Ashley R.A. Miller, Helina A. Hewlett and Alysha R. S. Lewis. “Jealous OVA is one of Dexta Baps’s singles that he did with recording artist Tiffa from Jamaica. As you may know Dexta Daps would be live in concert on October 31st at Myett’s Beach Front for the Hulaween show and Tiffa wouldn’t be here so he has asked us to do a competition where he would allow a lady from the BVI to perform live with him at the show,” explained member of Five Star Promotion Ms Akiema D. Brookes.

It is not the famous ‘The Voice’ or the popular ‘America’s Got Talent’, however, according to Five Star Promotion, they are a group of community minded persons who value home grown talent and see giving young artistes an opportunity to match talent with international artistes as a step in the right direction.

According to Ms Brookes, it will be the first time a local artiste would be given the opportunity to officially perform with an international recording artiste at such a level.

“I think it was a great initiative… in fact we put the idea to him and he thought it was a brilliant idea because we expressed to him that over years and years we have all these international artists coming here to the BVI to perform and it would be nice for some of our local talent to get some exposure with some of the artistes.”

“We feel with this collaboration song in the Absence of Tiffa we could fill in one of our lovely young ladies to perform live with him,” Ms Brookes further explained. Another young local artiste, Mr Richardo H. Bailey aka ‘Figga’, will be doing Daps’ part in the performance of the song. “It’s not about me it’s all about the girls,” said Bailey.

Last night October 14, 2015 this news site caught up with the girls during their rehearsals. Miller said that being the youngest of the three it would be a great experience for her. “It would put me out there because I know I have talent and I know I can win and when I do win it would mean a lot to me.”

Hewlett weighed her chance of winning at 6 on a scale of 1 to 10. “I am actually a dancer and I am doing this to challenge myself. So it more of an experience for me really to sing on stage again.”

According to Ms Lewis, “I decided to enter this competition because it’s new, I have never done something like this before and to sing live with Dexta Daps would be awesome. But I really decided to enter the competition because I am looking for the exposure.”

The completion to see who Dexta Daps will select to perform with him will take place at Da Basement on Friday October 16, 2015 and the competition gets underway from 10:00pm. The competition will be part of the featured action of the promotion called ‘Ultimate Libra Bash’ which will feature performances by ‘Boss’ of the ShowTime band, TeeJay of VIBE, Ah Milli Sounds, Dj Dre, PDB which is a young local rap group and the Venomous Poizon out of St Thomas, USVI.
