ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- A 28-year-old man from St. Thomas, USVI, has been charged with Possession of Explosives following his arrest earlier this month, January 2025.

The arrest was highlighted during Acting Commissioner of Police Jacqueline E. Vanterpool’s first press conference for 2025, though Camsel’s identity was not released then.

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has revealed the man arrested to be Shamauri Camsel in a press release on Friday, January 24, 2025.

The release states that the man, Shamauri Camsel, was arrested by police after they intercepted a suspicious vehicle while responding to multiple shots fired throughout the western districts on January 15, 2025. Following an unsuccessful attempt to evade offices, a search of the vehicle uncovered a package containing 200 rounds of 9mm ammunition.

Camsel has since been remanded to His Majesty’s Prison.

Please call it ammunition and not explosives. Change the law or charges to reflect such. I’m not diminishing the severity of having it but call it what it is.

For whom and why did he come here to shoot up the place? Great job on our Officers to catch this reckless and dangerous man. How did he get this ammunition into our borders is what is scary to me. What port of entry is allowing these criminals to get their weapons here? All of this needs to be investigated along with who here is harboring these criminals.

Make sure he is convicted. Please, BVI Police/Court/Government, deport him after he serve his sentence. Ban him forever from entering the BVI, ever again. I know of may convicts denied, forever, from the USA and the UK.
Government, first create the data of these CRIMINALS, country of origin and birth. Please, for the sake of the BVI standing in this ever changing world deport them, as the US does, and is doing

with a loaded flare is an explosive in the BVI, hence no flare guns allowed in the BVI. However a lithium ion device is NOT an explosive in the BVI just a battery that can burn forever and cannot be extinguished!! So which is more dangerous???
