ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Prosecutors intend to call some 25 witnesses to the stand when the three men implicated in the brazen attack on the Road Town police station in 2010 are brought to trial sometime during the February High Court criminal assizes, slated to commence on February 7, 2012.

Ramon George, Courtney Kamal Meade and Gerald Huggins are charged with aggravated burglary, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, unlawful possession of explosives and carrying an unlicensed firearm.

George and Meade, along with Kareem Simon who has pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary, are on remand while Huggins is on bail. Simon is expected to be sentenced during the assizes.

According to Crown Counsel Sarah Benjamin, most of the witnesses are police officers with only two being civilians.

The men floored residents with their daring attack on the police station during the wee hours of November 24, 2010 and allegedly asked for the location of confiscated cocaine. In the process, a police officer was also attacked.

This news agency understands that George, Meade and Simon allegedly entered the station, while Huggins was the alleged getaway driver.

During police investigations, it was reportedly discovered that a blue print of the building was in the men’s possession.

Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police Reynell Frazer, a few hours after the attack, revealed that the crime was well planned and orchestrated.

“Three of the four men now in custody entered the Road Town Police Station’s compound with masks, a handgun and other weapons. They climbed the perimeter fencing and were subject of camera surveillance. Armed officers at the station moved swiftly to apprehend the intruders and within three minutes the suspects were arrested and in handcuffs. Unfortunately, the front desk officer was assaulted by the suspects before they were subdued. We regret the injuries to the officer but are grateful that they were not more serious. I have spoken with the officer and the others on duty at the time and have ensured that welfare services which include counseling are available for all of them,” Frazer had said in the statement to the media.

Huggins is represented by Stephen Daniels, George is represented by Colin Foster and Meade has sought the services of Richard Rowe.
