Expanded commitment to education

According to a press release, what began as a $50,000 pledge in April 2026 grew to $100,000 over the following months as the group sought to make a more substantial impact and assist more students. Chairman Mark Vanterpool initially announced the University Scholarship Program with a focus on Virgin Gorda, but the expanded fund now includes students from across the Virgin Islands.

Honouring a legacy in education

The release added that the initiative bears the name of co-founder Judith E. Vanterpool, who has contributed more than 50 years to education in the Virgin Islands at various levels. Both Mark Vanterpool and Mrs. Vanterpool have backgrounds in teaching, and the scholarship fund honours and continues her legacy in education.

The MHV BVI Group regularly employs and mentors young persons during its summer job training program, demonstrating a continued commitment to advancing education and youth development in the territory.

Investment in the future 

“Beyond the financial impact, we want successful applicants to take this investment as a sign that someone believes strongly in what they can achieve,” said Judith Vanterpool. “We hope to see these scholars return and contribute to building a stronger Virgin Islands.”

Over the past 20 years, the MHV BVI Group has helped fund many students through school and has seen those students return to contribute meaningfully to the BVI community.

The MHV BVI Group University Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to eligible Virgin Islands students pursuing tertiary-level education. Recipients may be required to submit official semester or quarterly transcripts and maintain satisfactory academic standing throughout their studies.

The 2026 scholarship recipients join a growing network of MHV BVI Group scholars who are expected to return their knowledge and skills to benefit the territory’s development.
