21 new recruits for VI Cadet Corps
The recruiting squad which was made up of 15 males and six females commenced camp on Monday December 12, 2011.
Captain Selwyn Rock, Commandant of the VICC conducted the brief enlistment exercise which included the new cadets taking the Promise of Enlistment. They were then officially welcomed into the ranks and congratulated by the Officers and Senior Cadets who were present on camp.
The former recruits, who were in training since September, completed their basic foot drill training and learnt about the history of cadets and the organization and structure of the VICC. The camp also provided them with their first camping experience and allowed for the required testing to be carried out.
The recruit camp was the second phase of the VICC’s Christmas Camp activities this year. The initial phase was a training in Leadership and Methods of Instruction attended by seventeen cadet non-commissioned officers (NCOs) and potential NCOs conducted from Friday 09th -11th December at the same location. This facilitated the preparation of the senior cadets for their leadership and instructional duties during the recruit camp.
The VICC is a paramilitary youth organization with a high focus on discipline. Young persons, male or female, between the ages of eleven and nineteen years of age are eligible to join. Parents who are interested in having their children be a part of the organization can contact any Adult Officer or Instructor, or visit the corps’ website at http://vicadets.WebStarts.com for more information.
The Corps is also inviting adults, between the ages of 21-55 years of age, who are willing to give of their time, talent and energy in “Accepting the Challenge to Make a Difference” to contact Capt. Rock at Tel. No. 468-9155 or via email at vicadets@gmail.com, or they can also visit the VICC website for more information.
