20th COVID-19 death reported in USVI
CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St Thomas, USVI- The US Virgin Islands (USVI) Department of Health Sunday afternoon, September 27, 2020, announced the 20th COVID-19-related death in the US Virgin Islands, two weeks after announcing the 19th fatality in the Territory as a result of the virulent disease.
"The deceased is a 57-year-old male from St Thomas," said DOH, without providing further details such as whether the victim was at the hospital and on a ventilator when he passed.
The latest fatality comes as DOH has been reporting a decline in COVID-19 cases, though the department's data does not represent a true picture of the virus's impact on the territory, as testing has decreased from previous levels.
According to DOH's latest data, 68 active Covid-19 cases were being tracked territory-wide as of Saturday, September 26, 2020: 31 on St Croix, 26 on St Thomas and 11 on St John. The department has listed 1,209 people as recovered.
