ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The reclamation behind the Ralph T. O’Neal Administration Complex in Road Town, the capital city, is in full preparation for the Virgin Islands Music Festival.

The piece of land is being transformed with the erection of a stage, fence, and lights. On May 21, 2024 our roving camera noted many public sector agencies, including Public Works Department, BVI Electricity Corporation, and private contractors busy getting the grounds ready for the music festival.

The stage is being erected, along with electrical poles being planted, and water is expected to be made available, along with a perimeter fence around the compound.

The land is already levelled off and there is an asphalt pavement leading to the immediate roadway. While there was some controversy around having the music festival, the BVI Tourist Board, the event's main sponsor, is full speed ahead. It is our understanding that ticket sales are steady, and the excitement is in the air.

The normal critics

Controversial talk show host Rosemary L. Rosan aka 'Cindy', who spends all her time on radio criticising the Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7), has called for residents to boycott the event but has not given a reason.

Premier Wheatley noted that the event is going forward as it will bring much-needed attention to the Virgin Islands as part of the Tourism product, and will be a source of revenue.

The VI Music Festival has an impressive lineup including Nigerian American actor and singer Rotimi, international soca artist Voice, international dancehall/reggae artist Alkaline, R & B legend Freddie Jackson, along with many other local artists including the popular VIBE.

Cindy may indeed have a screw loose, but that doesn't mean that she's wrong in this instance. As for the "why," while I'm not a big fan of boycotts, they do send a message - and that needs to be done here.

She did give reason. Roads and the fact the government should not be using the people's monies on this event while roads are terrible, infrastructure is terrible etc.

Cindy doesn't have one screw loose. She has the balls to say what most of us say in secret. God bless her for opening our eyes. I love her show on ZRod! Heritage loss is ZRod's gain. Go Cindy.

They also have money to pay Cindy rent every month but I don’t see her complaining about that. It’s okay for them to pay her bills instead of her going to look a job. The same energy she have to be on the radio everyday, she could go find a 9-5 to support her lifestyle. Isn’t that abuse of public funds too?
      • @ Rosan (23/05/2024, 19:40) Like (7) Dislike (1) Reply
Is she the only one getting her rent and utilities paid? Check yourself, please. Wished i had such luxury. Right now i can do with some help, having lost my job and now being ill, utilising all my savings to take care of my rent and utilities and healthcare as well. Thank God for small mercies and i don't plan to give up and thankfully neither has Cindy. We know nobody is going to easily hire her due to her stance on certain things happening in the Virgin Islands. However, she's usually talking what most of us are thinking or chatting in private because we are afraid to say it out loud for fear of retribution by the Government or their friends. I commend Ms Rosan for standing up for the voiceless and for having the balls to be the political poriah where others failed to be so. Her name like Noel Lloyd will go down in history for all that she's doing for this Territory. Its time we stop calling her crazy or mentally unstable because she's not. Its great she has a broad back and can stand up for herself. Can we say the same for you as well as most of the general public. Wishing you peace, joy and the love of God.

We have VG in April, Cane Garden Bay in June, Festival in July...Don't like May month, everything is so cramp and congested, October give us separation and space to breath..

Since you mention seniors, it would be lovely if our seniors can be remembered and all of the senior citizen programs reconvene so our elderly can have something to do and somewherre to go at least 2 days a week. Hurricane and covid can no longer be our excuse. I think there is a program going on in East community Center but town don't have one. Why not?

Music Fest is nothing new in the BVI. It is simply being brought back after years of absence. Boycotting makes ZERO sense. Monies already spent. It helps tourism industry...... Restaurants, hotels, taxis, rental cars, departure tax, etc. Everyone is complaining about the roads. I have seen heavy equipment, boat trailers etc. rip up the roads and create holes in the road. Can we stop blaming the government for everything that happens? If the rain falls, blame the government. If you overspend your money, blame the government! Geez!
  • smh (22/05/2024, 15:08) Like (11) Dislike (0) Reply
The reason nothing changes is because we give a lot of lip service, but never back it up with any action.

With all the noise about this music fest, let's see if the same folks talking are going to be in attendance. Based on past experience, I'm sure many of the talkers will be in attendance. It makes absolutely no sense!

These guys have found new ways to extort us.

Thank you BVI government for giving the next hurricane storm surge a direct path to completely destroy the Central Administration Building once and for all. In fact based on these aerial photos the next storm surge could completely separate Wickhams Cay I from Road Town by removing all the annoying banks from the BVI.
