ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Christmas in the City this year will honour the life, legacy, and music of the late Claude Parillon.

Mrs Janice E.L. Brathwaite-Edwards of the City Manager's Office told Cathy O. Richards during an interview on JTV Channel 55 on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, “This year we’re dedicating Christmas in the City to the memory of Claude Parillon who just recently passed and who in the beginning of Christmas in the City was a stable feature for the singing…for Christmas in the City.”

Mr Parillon she said died while this year’s event was being planned and so the team decided it was fitting to dedicate this year’s event to his memory.

“We [wanted to] show our appreciation to him by honouring his music, not just his Christmas music, his music period, because he was a BVI musical icon,” Mrs Braithwaute-Edwards explained.

Christmas in the City turns 26 with 2-day event planned

This year, the event is also celebrating its 26th anniversary and activities will run from December 6 to 7, 2024 at Shore Way Drive in Road Town.

Night one will have the opening ceremony followed by performances featuring a flute trio, the BVI Dance School, and the Razor Blades.

During the day on day two, Caribbean Insurance will host their Guavaberry Competition.

Night Two will feature a Steel Panorama with steel bands such as Cedar International, Shooting Stars, Elmore Stoutt High School, and the Women Steel Orchestra from the St. George’s Anglican Church. A new Virgin Islands band will also make their debut on night two.

Food, fun & gifts @ Christmas in the City

Mrs Brathwaite-Edwards said several new individuals have registered to have booths at the event. Items ranging from food, and clothing to gifts will be on sale.

The children will be entertained with child-friendly games and activities at this year’s Christmas in the City.

Santa will also make an appearance on Saturday and will gift the children toys. “It’s something for the children to look forward to in 2024,” she said.

Mrs Brathwaite-Edwards encouraged residents to “come out, do your thing” for Christmas in the City this weekend.

When common sense isn't common any longer among the majority of our people of the BVI (British Virgin Islands.

Mr. Claude Parilon life lasted for more that seventy years. Of the more that seventy years he lived in the BVI approximately 35 to 45 years.
His legacy in singing in the BVI lasted for decades. Why only after he has passed was it chosen to honour him, Mrs. Janice E L. Brathwaite, why now? Now is to late for him to appreciate your gesture City (Road town) Manager of the BVI.

I repeat: When common sense isn't common any longer among the majority of the people of the BVI (British Virgin Islands.

@ Native Senior Citizen…. You always have much to say. Sometimes you don’t think or research before you type . Do you really think it is the City Manager (alone) that made the decision to name this after Mr Parillon?

Without distracting from the memory of the late Claude Parillon, can someone tell me when the status of Road Town was elevated to that of a city?

Might be around the same time we started speaking of "nation building", "independence", "self-sufficiency" and other such politically expedient words

She will retire when you do. What purpose will Mad serve if the government and persons using the lands doesn’t to give money or pay to her department? Yall need to learn about what’s going on before running yall mouth. Mad don’t even know his head from his feet.

Agreed she needs to retire, but is Mad qualified for the job or even more does he want the job. All that glitters is not gold. Caribbean people love titles but pit in little work.

Can you post a schedule of events.. what time are the children's events? What time are the steel pan performances?

Hate to be that one negative person but Someone needs to say it. This event is becoming a dump every year with no proper planing. People just walking back and forth not interested in nothing. First they keep it too early around exam time for students most parents like my self are trying to get their kid ready for finals. same with the lighting of the Christmas tree kept too early no advertisement and rushed. Both event should be held together. Less schools and community members are involved. The thing is dead and dry every year no good entertainment. Need a better planning committee and a location like Main Street where they can also hold the lighting of the Christmas tree. Take my stupid advice
