2020 hurricane season sets record with formation of TS Zeta
The 2005 season got to 27 named storms plus one unnamed storm that wasn’t discovered until post-hurricane season analysis.
Even counting that storm, 2005 would’ve reached 27 named storms om November 29, when 2005’s Hurricane Epsilon became a tropical storm.
As of the 2:00pm update, Zeta had taken a seat about 275 miles south southeast of Cuba’s western finger and 255 miles southeast of Cozumel, Mexico.
Zeta’s got 40 mph maximum winds, but is forecast to be a hurricane by late Monday or early Tuesday.
Hurricane Epsilon
Meanwhile, Epsilon became the 10th hurricane of the 2020 season last week.
As of the 11:00am update by the National Hurricane Centre, Epsilon was located about 245 miles Southeast of Cape Race, Newfoundland.
It had maximum sustained winds of 75 mph.
