2020 Hon Fraser League cancelled!
One of the major tournaments that will not be held this year is the popular Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed National Basketball League, which is in its 8th year.
“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Directors of the League, upon the advice of the Committee, have taken the decision to cancel the 2020 Season,” a press release from Chairperson of the Committee, Mrs Kharid T. Fraser, stated on July 1, 2020, stated.
Not a light decision
According to Mrs Fraser, the decision to cancel the 2020 season was not made lightly.
“As the COVID-19 Pandemic continues, and the Protocols outlined by the Health Department, such as Social Distancing; Wearing of Masks; which makes it unlikely to hold the League in its true tradition, we thought it best to cancel the League at this time to ensure and protect the health of players, fans and committee members.”
She said the League looks forward to hosting its Ninth Season during 2021.
“We continue to thank the players, fans, and committee members for the commitment to this League, and to Basketball within the Territory. Please continue to follow the guidelines from the Health Department and be safe,” Mrs Fraser said.
The decision means Pure Players can now hold on to the championship trophy for an additional year.
The League
The Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed Basketball League was founded in 2013 by Third District Representative Honourable Julian Fraser RA, and founder of the Save the Seed Energy Centre Bishop John I. Cline.
The Basketball League, which is unique for its draft players system, is governed by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) rules, endorsed by the BVI Basketball Federation and has its own by-laws and governing Committee.
