2016 LIME SuperFast T20 League bowls off Sunday
Action gets underway in both the Premier Division and Division One League. At 10am, Road Town Wholesale play Island Stars in the Division One League and then at 2pm Royal Knights face Vikings in the Premier League.
“The Premier Division and Division One format will mean that each and every game will be competitive, with top tier teams playing each other every Sunday and Division One teams facing each other as evenly matched teams, all vying to gain promotion to the Premiership as well as claim the Division Championship,” commented BVI Cricket Association (BVICA) President Charlie E. Jackson.
There are five teams in each Division with the top four in each playing in an IPL style play off to see who will be champions. Additionally, the 5th placed team in the Premiership will be relegated and the Champions of Division One promoted.
“It was important to keep the Grand Finals day as part of the season,” noted Cricket Sub Committee Chairperson, Jadid Khan. “So the top team will automatically qualify for the Final whilst the 4th placed teams play the 3rd placed for the right to play the 2nd placed team for the other spot in the respective finals.”
The BVICA believes that not only will this allow them to begin to track the best players in a competitive environment, but also guarantees more cricket for everyone with more meaning for each game.
Electronic scoring
Other innovations for this season will include electronic scoring so every player’s statistics are recorded and immediately uploaded to a database and a soon to be announced BVICA website.
LIME (BVI) is back on board as the title sponsor after a hugely successful first season and as the Head of Consumer Sales and Service, Ravi Maywahlall, stated: “I take this opportunity to wish all the teams good luck and an injury-free tournament. We are truly thrilled to be the title sponsor of the Superfast League T20, 2016. Cricket is truly a Caribbean sport and has been igniting the passion and competitive spirit of Caribbean people for many years.”
Maywahlall further said the teams in the tournament are comprised of nationalities from across the Caribbean and further afield and that it is no coincidence that it is all happening in the VI, a true melting pot of people from around the world.
“LIME takes its responsibility as a corporate citizen very seriously and we are proud to continue to connect communities in the BVI and around the region. We thank the organisers for the opportunity of sponsoring the tournament again this year. We look forward to keen competition between the teams but also to a very fun-filled and memorable event for the whole family,” concluded Maywahlall.
