2013 VG Easter Festival participants allegedly still not paid
The resident who was a caller on the Speak Your Mind show aired on September 21, 2013 alleged that VG Festival participants were also without payment after some five months.
Remarking that he has heard discussions about persons in Tortola having not been paid for their services in the Emancipation Festival, the resident stated, “Tortola’s Festival just finished in August, but I want to remind those [persons] including the Chairman of the VI Festival and Fairs Committee that those people on Virgin Gorda who participated in the Easter Festival, a lot of them haven’t been paid either.”
The resident stated that persons have become so complacent and used to a lack of representation that they have grown mum.
Chairman of the Virgin Gorda Festival Committee, Mr Rupert Vanterpool Jr confirmed that payment had not been made to some persons and explained that he was in constant communication with those who had payments that remained outstanding.
He added that persons were aware of the reasons why payments were not yet made. “We are waiting on the Festival & Fairs Committee,” Vanterpool stated.
When contacted for a comment on the issue, Chairman of the VI Festival & Fairs Committee, Mr Marvin ‘MB’ Blyden, advised that this news site speak with Education and Culture Minister Hon. Myron V. Walwyn whom he referred to as ‘the boss’.
“Myron is the boss… Myron just made a general statement [on the issue of non-payment],” he said. “Myron has all the information, I give it to him,” he added.
Efforts to contact Hon. Walwyn for a comment on the matter proved unsuccessful.
The Virgin Gorda Easter Festival was held from March 30-April 1, 2013.
