20-year sentences for RT station attackers!
Meade had pleaded guilty on May 8, 2012 to aggravated burglary while George had pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary and carrying an unlicensed firearm.
Handing down the sentence this morning in the High Court, Justice Albert Redhead described the attack as a bold and daring one and told Mr. George, “You embarked on a very serious and dangerous mission on the night in question you raided the police station in Road Town, masked and armed with weapon, this showed to me you have no regard to authority… you literally compromise the security of this country.”
Speaking to Mr. Meade, the Judge said, “Ýou are a talented musician, and could have earned a livelihood by that.”
Meanwhile, Gerard Huggins, who was facing alleged charges in connection with the attack, was freed after his trial came to an abrupt end following a no-case submission by his lawyer on May 16, 2012.
Before dismissing the case Justice Albert Redhead had lamented that the trial was a waste of time and resources and chastised Crown Counsel Sarah Benjamin for that. Huggins was allegedly fingered as the getaway driver in the attack.
Kareem Simon, who had pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary last year, was given an eight year prison term by Justice Rita Joseph-Olivetti on April 3, 2012.
The evidence, according to the Crown, showed the three men entering the police station masked, wearing gloves, armed, had several plastic handcuffs among other things. It is alleged that they had a hand drawn map, as they made their way to the guard room where they dislocated a CCTV camera and assaulted PC Kevin Prince. The officer was allegedly struck in his head by one of the attackers and hit in his abdomen by another.
The men, who were armed with a glock, a crow bar and a knife, were caught disarmed, unmasked and taken into custody, the crown had stated.
