2 USVI men arrested at sea

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Two men have been charged with Possession of a Prohibited Weapon and Unlawful Possession of Explosives after being intercepted at sea by police.

According to a press release from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), shortly after 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 14, 2024, members of the Virgin Islands Law Enforcement Marine Base Joint Task Force, inclusive of officers of the RVIPF and His Majesty’s Customs, conducted a routine patrol and stopped a vessel for inspection in the Frenchman’s Cay area.

USVI men arrested and charged

They discovered a firearm and ammunition in the possession of 32-year-old Richard Barronville and Khalid Smith aged 24 of the US Virgin Islands during the search.

The men were arrested and transported to the Road Town Police Station. Following the charges, the men are expected to appear before the Magistrate Court at the next available sitting.

The press release added, “The RVIPF wishes to express its sincere gratitude to members of the public who have contributed to efforts aimed at eliminating illegal firearms from our communities.”
