ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has charged an 18-year-old with criminally damaging a number of CCTV cameras belonging to business establishments around Road Town.

On Monday, March 29, 2021, the Police Information Office released information, stating that the individual is Mehki Heskey of no fixed place of abode.

“He is charged with removing or damaging CCTV cameras outside of four businesses between McNamara and Pickering Street,” the RVIPF said, adding that the youngster was charged with criminal damage and burglary and he “has confessed so far to five offences, one burglary and four counts of criminal damage.”

“He is to be granted police bail to appear before the Magistrate’s Court at a later date,” the release added.

Marvin Gumbs charged for taking items from motor vehicles

Still, in police news, Marvin Gumbs, who also has no fixed place of abode, was charged with entering and taking items from at least two motor vehicles in the McNamara area.

The RVIPF said Gumbs has a number of other matters pending and was granted police bail for his later appearance at Magistrate’s Court.

“Police investigations are ongoing into these matters,” the RVIPF said.

Why are they granting Police Bail to these individuals? Who is paying their bail money? They are just going out on the road and doing the same thing over and over. I have tried to help Marvin Gumbs so many times with washing my car but he is hooked on the drug system. These individuals need a Rehabilitation Centre where they can be looked after, take their medications, food etc.
Until one day some citizen decide to take matters in their own hands when they steal from them, too late will be the cry!

Why are you helping him all he will do is buy crack. He once suckered me into helping him when he first popped on the scene and he helped himself to the ghetto right in front of me.

The common denominator is that they are both of no place of abode, the fancy term for homeless. How long has the 18 year old been homeless? Heard he has lived most his life as a child having to look out for himself and he has a young mother but she cannot be bodered with him. Don't know any more that this about him.

Other person is a known addict in town. One week he is cleaned up and in a white suit, looking decent enough, and the next he is walking the street in filth and pee. From the little information, it is 2 people who probably feel the jail is safer for them than the being out here. At least they going get feed and bath. How is our welfare system helping people like them. and how are all of us in the community doing to help the downtrodden. I ask myself the same question

I told Marvin he should go to Safe Haven; they have a bed and meals for him. He says they won't let him go there. When I asked the staff at Safe Haven, they say he will always have a bed and meals for himself there, but he won't go because he doesn't want to follow their rules. So, don't feel sorry for Marvin. He is doing what he wants.
