16 new cases of COVID-19 detected in 2 days in VI
In a joint statement by Governor Augustus Jaspert and Minister for Health and Social Development, Honourable Carvin Malone, it was stated that there is a likelihood of further transmission of COVID-19 in the Territory, and frontline workers have a heightened risk of exposure.
“Therefore, periodic testing of staff across health, police, and other frontline agencies is ongoing, and all measures are being implemented to reduce the exposure risk,” Hon Malone said.
It was also noted that further contact tracing is underway.
RVIPF officers test positive
According to the statement, as a result of contact tracing, members of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force are being screened for the virus that causes COVID-19, and a small number of officers have tested positive.
“These officers have been removed from service and will remain in isolation until fully recovered. All members of their households and other close contacts, including other police officers, are being quarantined and tested. Out of an abundance of caution, all remaining police officers are being given priority for COVID-19 testing.”
In order to minimise risk, the East End/Long Look and the Road Town Stations will be temporarily closed for deep cleaning and disinfection; however, other police resources have been put in place to ensure adequate coverage to protect those communities, enforce the curfew and maintain general law and order.
“To reduce the risk of transmission, members of the public who wish to access health or police services are asked to avoid going to these facilities in person unless there is an emergency. For all emergencies, dial 911. The 24-hour non-emergency number to contact the police is 311. As far as possible, persons must always call ahead before visiting any healthcare facility.”
Persons who believe they may have been exposed to COVID-19 or are experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, headache, fatigue, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, muscle aches or difficulty breathing are encouraged to contact the Medical Hotline at 852-7650 to schedule an appointment for testing rather than present at the hospital or any other facility.

Who don’t hear does feel and eventually learn the hard way.
47 out of a population of 35,000 in BVI is less than the percentage rate in the USA. USA = 6,158 million positive cases out of an estimated population of 328 million people. BVI will need to have about 650 positive cases to be at same rate as USA.
By the time the updeislun folks hog up the hospital beds and the ventilators , local folks will be in the I can't breathe mode with no air to their lungs and dropping ded.
Po Tolians,

Everyday the same set of people hanging out.

Are the cases COVID-19 or, flu cases?
COVID-19 and the flu have common symptoms. What exactly differentiates between Covid-19 and the common flu?
It's just a Vaccine
It's just a ID chip
It's just a police ride to a camp.
If you boil a frog slowly it’ll never know it’s being cooked
I love how relaxed the policing is here... one of the least police state countries in the world.
ID chips LOL... Try farting in east end without west end hearing about it...
Keep your foolish talk for Americans
Fever, cough, headache, fatigue, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, muscle aches or difficulty breathing are also flu symptoms.

Please lockdown the island and stop taking pressure from business "Health is first"
There’s many that don’t .
Let’s start a petition online to shutdown the territory.
Ok voodoo man M***** P***** you should be #$$%% excited today. What is your recommendation now A$$ h^^**.
You dont seem too concerned about the virus, some countries are offering top dollar to be a frontline worker, no medical background necessary, plenty of work to do , even if it's to move infected patients and dead bodies .
We are Caribbean people, God has given us the herbs for the healing of the nation. It is time we use them, don't wait until we get sick. Use them morning, noon and night. Stop drinking all those sodas and high frucose syrup.
LET'S WORK ON OUR HEATH, BVI!!
i was guilty of getting complacent for sure.
locking down only works if we ALL work together afterwards with the precautions..simple as that. otherwise we may as well just open the curfew and brace for sickness and probable death of some and get it done with and past us...sickening as that sounds...its the harsh reality.
respectfully submitted.
You advertise to open the borders and businesses and look what is happening. What is your next plan? I hope you are happy now and all along this is what you wanted to happen to pull down the government. People of the BVI please go and get yourself check.
Adhere to the wearing of mask, washing of hands and social distancing. Mr. Premier dont allow these guys to lead you in the wrong direction.
Persons coming in legally via TB Lettsome airport are not the problem. Don't you get it??? We can control that through testing and quarantine which we are doing now. It is the Government's one dimensional focus on who should come in legally that took their eyes off the real problem: Those coming in illegally! Why did they refuse the help from the UK? Now we have to pay 51k /day for barges to shore up the borders?
The borders should be opened up with the proper safety protocols in place so we can screen everyone in that way we can at least cut down on those who chose to smuggle. Again we can screen those coming in legally but not those who come in illegally.
Don’t be an @#$*0£€ this thing don’t have friends
We have to be responsible citizens and follow the protocols set in place.
Keep the bars closed and let us keep contact tracing the other persons.
LOCKDOWN is the new word for the BVI.
As I understand it. On Friday there were 9 new cases and then 7 more bringing the total to 16 new cases.
I would like to know if there are more recoveries other than the 8 recorded.
We never thought of god in control.i want premier, and all whi say dem boss in bvi to stop covid 19. Dont call on prayers,ah you too racist.
Bvi have 6.
If a truck come through your neighborhood spraying a dangerous chemical and you were told to wear a mask and even stay inside BUT DID NOT then got ill, would you have gotten ill if you had WORN THE MASK and STAYED INSIDE?
In this case, we don’t even have to stay inside just FOLLOW SIMPLE INSTRUCTIONS.
STOP TAKING THIS VIRUS FOR A JOKE!
I see the Agenda y'all silently playing into...Instill fear in gullible News watching people who will believe everything they see on thier screens...COVID may be a real thing...But i'm aware that Governments around the world has been using it to instill fear in the minds of the people so they can further strenhthen their power over the life of the living...LET MY PEOPLE GO!
You are so damn stupid and suicidal as hell you don't cares about your life or nobody else how could you say such things fool.
SHUT up are sit down take a shower and RELAXED
Illegal smuggling across the boundaries is a major problem and until we get that under control a lockdown means nothing. Also proper enforcement of the current protocols would serve better than a lockdown. The task force should be making more random inspections of businesses to ensure that they adhere to the protocols. If they are not doing that , lockdowns will not... I repeat will not make a difference!
We have a problem with enforcement in this country. Plain and simple.
I am very concerned though, and wondering if we are effectively reaching the people with the message about safe distancing, hand washing, wearing masks, etc. Yes, the message is being disseminated via social media and radio, but what about those persons who do not have electronic devices and radios? What about those who do not speak English and Spanish?
I drove around Tortola yesterday and was shocked to see that most of the people were not following the protocols. We are in deep trouble if this trend continues.
For a country with over 123 different nationalities maybe we need to do more. Enforcement is key. Also, take out those old-fashioned megaphones and go through the villages! PR people, let your voices be heard on the highways and by-ways. Get the message across.
This is serious guys! Covid-19 is not playing with us and we can’t afford to play with it.
Our very lives are at stake.
