This Week We Feature Young Professional Trevor A. Bridgewater Jr
Affable, ambitious and authentic are the three ‘As’ that best describe the personality of our Young Professional Mr Trevor A. Bridgewater Jr, according to a very close friend of his. And when one sits to have a conversation with him there is no doubt that he has such a personality.
Currently employed as an administrative assistant at Sir Richard Branson's private island, Necker Island (August 2015 to present), Trevor was the Pbx Operator/Guest Services Attendant at Rosewood Little Dix Bay from August 2011 to January 2014.
Trevor grew up in a very nurturing and caring home with his mom and two grandparents. Being the only child he got all the attention he could have possibly wanted, which he said he believes allowed him to become the person he is today.
“For most of my childhood years I attended private school institutions such as the Solid Rock Foundation School, Cornerstone Primary School and then later the Bregado Flax Primary Division where I attained my Primary Five Certificate,” he said during an interview with this news site.
Our Young Professional said that whatever he thinks to do or puts his hands to do he thinks of how his grandparents would have felt about it had they still been here with him. “I still draw inspiration from them, even though they are gone I know they are with me and smile at my every success.”
After his primary education, Trevor went on to the Bregado Flax Secondary Division where he graduated in 2007 with a Grade 1 school leaving certificate. Thereafter he attended the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College and graduated in 2010 with an Associates of Science degree in Human Services and with Cum Laude honours. Most recently, in May 2015 he graduated from the University of the Virgin Islands with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology, with Summa Cum Laude honours.
Heart of gold
While he is in a job that he loves and cherishes it’s not the his dream career but understands that getting to where you ultimately want to be in life sometimes one has to be patient while continuing to work towards their goals. “I'm still hopeful to find myself within the social services sector as a Gerontologist or Juvenile Social Worker.”
“My experience of being told I am a good friend, listener and confidant were reasons why I decided to study Psychology. More importantly, it was through taking care of my grandmother when she fell ill up until her death that I realised I had a strong passion for the elderly. This has led me to consider becoming a Gerontologist,” he related.
In the next 5-10 years Trevor said he sees himself as a "mover" and "shaker" in his community to ensure that youths are empowered and making sure that elderly persons of his community are living comfortably and are accounted for as a valuable population in his community.
And as the old adage goes, “If you love them old folks you got a heart of gold”.
Other than his dream career, which is working in the social services sector, Trevor would not mind working in the hospitality industry. “This choice is because most of my work experience revolves around hotel work, and also because I've been told that my warming, caring, and trustworthy traits are of great value to the industry.”
Trevor loves to socialise and meet new people, although at first glance it may not seem so. He enjoys playing dominoes and listening and playing music.
Our Young Professional has a deep seated passion for youth and their development and in giving his advice to them he stated, “As I pointed out earlier, I'm interested in ensuring that the youth are empowered so my topic of discussion with them would be on self-esteem. I would leave with them the point that no one can make them feel inferior unless they let them. In addition, I would let them to know that whatever they do let that speak for them, and to always remain humble because someone is always watching, whether they are aware or not.”
He further said he believes the youth should be at the forefront of their community, which is why he is a member of the Rotaract Club of Virgin Gorda and also a member of the newly created Virgin Islands Youth Parliament.
