SCRUB ISLAND, VI – Marilyn Glasgow, who is suffering from multiple myeloma and requires a bone marrow transplant, has been given a boost in her fundraising efforts to reach her enormous medical expense, thanks to a kind initiative of her employers of nearly 7 years, Scrub Island Resort, Spa and Marina.

Nearly $23K raised

The fundraising event held on March 12, 2020 at Scrub Island raised nearly $23,000 in donations.

“The management and staff at Scrub Island Resort would like to thank everyone who came together for this amazing event last week to support of our beloved team member, Marilyn Glasgow,” said Tom Haines, Vice President of Operations at Mainsail Lodging & Development in a press release on March 19, 2020.

“I met Marilyn many years ago when she first joined the Scrub Island team and I’m very happy we were able to bring our community together to help her win this fight.”

Guests at the event enjoyed hors d'oeuvres, cocktails, food stations, and live music. Live and silent auctions included luxury items such as specialty dinners, wines, luxury resort stays, chartered yacht vacations, sailing day trips, spa treatments, fine jewelry, travel packages and more.

Scrub Island employee of nearly 7 years

St Lucia national, Ms Glasgow had told reporters at a fundraiser for her benefit at Mala’s Bar in Baughers Bay on Friday, January 31, 2020 that prior to being diagnosed with multiple myeloma she was hardly ill; now she has weakened and is unable to work.

“I stayed home nearly two months not working, and that was the hardest thing for me because I work Scrub Island for nearly seven years, and I recall calling in sick only one time. I love my job,” she had said sadly.

The grandmother, who has been in the Virgin Islands over 30 years now, said she is being treated locally and upon completion of the four-month treatment, the final phase to get her back on her feet would be the operation, which would cost some $200, 000.

Generous sponsors

Meanwhile, generous event sponsors at the Scrub Island fundraiser included TICO, Caribbean Cellars, BVI GIN, Casper Punch, Yolo BVI, Offshore Sailing School, Island Time Charter, Dive BVI, Marine Max, Mary & Jeff Little Charters, House of Luxury, Kiss the Jeweler, Ixora Spa, Brandywine Bay Restaurant, The Roof Top Restaurant, Seven at the Pier, DJ Dre, DJ Push Pop, Beautiful By Jasanay, Trèfle, Tortola Vision Center, IAM Jet Centre, Family Support Network, interCaribbean, Fly the Whale Aircraft, Ocean Club Resort Turks & Cacios and Mainsail Lodging & Development.

Anyone wishing to help Marilyn reach her goal of $200,000 needed for the procedure can make donations through a GoFundMe account at GoFundMe.com/f/bxqar-bone-marrow-transplant.

we did this at Peg Legs years ago raised about the same amount, was used for treatment but to no avail, I would say give her the money and let her choose a great 6 months or a roll of the dice, harsh but true. Let her decide.

i think what "True" is saying is that someone was in a similar situation, and a similar approach was taken with an unfavorable outcome...the person passed. at least that is what I understood. but different situations can turn out differently, and God is still sitting on His throne. with that said, hope Marilyn recovers in Jesus name.

@ True, Really? How dare you! What happened to one person does not mean the same for the other. I know a few who went through this years ago and are still living strong today. That was a horrible thing to say and you don't know what's coming your way. Unbelievable!

All I said was give her the money let her decide the best way to spend it.

@ True...You need to calm down. She wants to save her life, not go on a shopping spree. There are many who have survived and the unfortunate one you talked about does not reflect every case. You yourself seem very upset and you too can donate to this good cause.
