NORTH SOUND, Virgin Gorda, VI- Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1) has addressed critics who are not pleased that Virgin Gorda has- in a matter of days- received three major contracts, that the time is ripe for the sister island to gain the attention it deserves.

“We are pleased to see that contracts are signed to rehabilitate and reconstruct public buildings like the Bregado Flax School and the Flax Administration Building on Virgin Gorda and today we see another one being signed on Virgin Gorda,” Premier Fahie said on Tuesday, May 5, 2020, during the contract signing ceremony for the reconstruction of the John E. George Administration Building in North Sound.

The $625,400 contract was signed between the Recovery and Development Agency and Quality Construction. It’s funded by the Government of the Virgin Islands through the Caribbean Development Bank Recovery and Rehabilitation Loan.

Premier Fahie continued: “I know that there are those who are thinking that all the money is going to Virgin Gorda, but please rest assured that there are plenty more projects coming for the people of the BVI on all the islands. But it is about time Virgin Gorda get a little more attention. My Government has always said that no island would be left behind.”

'It’s practically unheard of'- Hon Vincent O. Wheatley

Meanwhile, Ninth District Representative and Minister for Natural Resources, Labour and Immigration, Honourable Vincent O. Wheatley registered his elation.

“I am indeed very happy today. This is my third time here and my third contract in five days concerning a sister island, and I am very, very pleased. It’s phenomenal, and it’s practically unheard of. It is really good to see this building fixed after the hurricanes,” he remarked.

He also said it is good to see after many years of being neglected that the sister island is receiving some attention.

Residents of the sister islands have often complained of being neglected over the years.

Hon Vincent O. Wheatley (R9) of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Government was elected Ninth District Representative in February 2019, taking over from Dr Hubert R. O'Neal of the National Democratic Party (NDP).

Great to hear of all these projects on VG. But my question is what is the plan for the North Sound admin building? It wasn’t used for any particular purpose before the hurricanes, other than replacing the old local sub-post office.

Contracts are signing to get repair works done on the sister island and I am happy that this is being done. However, road works to fix undermined roads on Jost Van Dyke was started but cannot be completed.

Why is it that Jost Van Dyke is always neglected???

It is good to see these contracts signing to refurbish the structures on Virgin Gorda. However, I do hope that the contractors will consider employing the workers from Virgin Gorda on some of these projects. From information obtained, the contractors are from Tortola . I wonder if there isn't any reputable contractor on the island of Virgin Gorda that is capable of executing these works. If not I would like to know what is required to make them eligible to win these contracts.

From my experience the entire Leverick Bay Resort was constructed by Virgin Gorda contractors. Spring Bay Resorts, Top Of the Baths and many other local residents and Villas were built by Virgin Gorda contractors. What is it that disqualified them now that they cannot win one contract. Ralph T. O'Neal must be turning in his grave when all the contracts are signing and his people are not getting any.

There are investors ready to invest in VG and rest of BVI but the district rep and gang playing with the situation. They want we to stay home and wait for them bag ah food and wear mask like mask man. We want to work and make money to take care of our family too. it aint nothing new we had 40 years of the same nonsense and it continues, all the rep doing since he come in is killing the small man on VG and looking out for he rich white friends.
